Es erschien im Oktober 2018 für PlayStation 4 und Xbox One und im November 2019 für Microsoft Windows. Ab dem 19. November 2019 war das Spiel auch für Google Stadia verfügbar. Red Dead Redemption 2 ist nach Red Dead Revolver (2004) und Red Dead Redemption (2010) der dritte Teil der Red-Dead-Reihe.
